April 2024 Progress Report

It's April, a few months after my January progress report this year, so I wanted to make sure the keep the momentum with updates and let everyone know how the progress is going.

At the moment, we're working hard on getting the demo update ready for release. The writing is 90% the same so I'm only making minor changes to it as I'm adding in the new directions for the each of the scenes in regards to locations of the 'camera' and character sprites.  I'm about 1/4th of the way through with that, but once I get going, I tend to knock a large portion out at one time.

The main focus, right now, is to finish remaking the CGs. I'm still almost entirely using the originals as a base because I don't want to deviate from the vision I had originally for them. This is basically just an art upgrade to my most recent style.  But I do have one CG that I would like to replace with a completely new one and a brand new CG to pull in the pacing of introducing the characters better.
Like with Encore, I don't want to get caught up too much on constantly upgrading my art that I don't work on the rest of the game, so this next update is probably the last as far as style goes. What I'm producing now is what the game will look like.
With all of that out of the way, I'm done with 5 of the 8 CGs that are included with the demo. I'm feeling rather proud of the detail I'm able to put into this going forward. A few of the post demo CGs are also nearly complete.

Other than the things I just went over, the things we need to work on next are programming in the new scene directions, remaking the title screen and opening video, and some of the pose B sprites for the characters with sprites that appear in the demo.

Now that we're getting closer to the release of the demo update, I plan on changing the rest of the art presented on the page. I understand that this can be confusing for anyone downloading the demo before the update but I am adding a disclaimer on the page to state that in this transition period, there may be differences in the art. I hope this isn't too much of a bother; I just want to be sure that the changes the game is going through eventually make it to the page closer to release.

The tl;dr is that the progress is going really smoothly, I'm adding in two new CGs and removing one, and that a lot of the work for the demo update has been completed. While we don't have a release date yet, we're still on track to release the demo update soon.

And I want to end by saying, while I wanted to keep them all a surprise, I think proof of our work is in order, right? I'll be adding a preview of one of the CG updates. Enjoy Yuri spacing out in the classroom. Thank you all for your support, I can't wait for you all to experience this game of ours!
